President Donald Trump issued a sharp warning to Elon Musk on Saturday, cautioning that there would be “serious consequences” if the billionaire entrepreneur chose to back Democratic candidates. The comments came during a phone interview with NBC News.

“If he does, he’ll have to deal with the consequences,” Trump said, though he didn’t elaborate on what exactly those consequences might be.

When asked about the current state of his relationship with Musk, the President made it clear he has no plans to reconnect. “I’d assume it’s over,” he told the outlet, adding that he has “no intention” of speaking with the Tesla and SpaceX CEO again — a sentiment he also expressed to Fox News anchor Bret Baier.

Tensions between the two have flared in recent days, escalating rapidly after Musk publicly slammed a Trump-endorsed spending package known as the “Big Beautiful Bill.” In a post on X earlier this week, Musk called the bill “a disgusting abomination” packed with unnecessary spending. He added, “Shame on those who voted for it. You know you did wrong.”

Following his criticism, Musk posted — and later deleted — a series of fiery comments. One post referenced Trump’s alleged connections to Jeffrey Epstein, while another backed calls for Trump’s impeachment and suggested Vice President JD Vance should take over leadership.

Musk also argued that the bill would undo much of the financial efficiency achieved by the DOGE team — a task force he was once asked to lead under Trump’s administration.

President Trump responded strongly on Friday, telling Baier, “Elon’s totally lost it.” Later that day, he posted on Truth Social, saying Musk should have distanced himself earlier. “I don’t mind Elon turning against me, but he should’ve done it months ago. This is one of the greatest bills Congress has ever seen. It sets America on a path to greatness. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

The two had previously appeared to be allies, especially after Musk publicly supported Trump following a near-assassination attempt at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. That moment reportedly marked the beginning of their short-lived partnership, which eventually led Musk to take a leadership role in the Trump administration’s DOGE initiative.
