Elon Musk recently deleted a post on X where he suggested President Donald Trump, who is currently in office as of June 7, 2025, was named in Jeffrey Epstein’s case files. The move might signal a cooling-off period between the tech mogul and the president after a public spat over a new budget bill.
On June 5, Musk posted on X, claiming Trump’s name was in the Epstein files and hinting this was why the files weren’t fully public. He ended the post with a sarcastic, “Have a nice day, DJT!” The post was taken down shortly after.
Trump hit back on June 6, sharing a statement on Truth Social from David Schoen, Epstein’s former attorney. Schoen wrote, “I was hired to defend Jeffrey Epstein nine days before his death. He consulted me for months prior. I can say with certainty he had no information that could harm President Trump. I asked him directly.”
The clash follows a heated exchange over a budget bill Musk criticized on June 3, calling it a “massive, outrageous, pork-filled” mess on X, which he owns. He slammed lawmakers who supported it, saying they knew it was wrong.
At a press conference on June 4, Trump responded, saying Musk initially understood the bill but only objected after learning it would cut electric vehicle mandates, costing billions. Trump added he was “very disappointed” in Musk and expected personal attacks to follow.
The feud comes shortly after news that Musk would no longer be part of Trump’s administration. Trump’s name has appeared in Epstein-related flight logs, released earlier this year by Attorney General Pam Bondi, showing up seven times. However, being listed doesn’t imply wrongdoing, as many people flew on Epstein’s plane for legitimate reasons.
Trump and Epstein were friends for years but reportedly fell out in the mid-2000s, according to Trump’s statements to reporters before Epstein’s suicide in 2019.
