Nashville, TN – On Sunday, June 8, 2025, country singer Conner Smith was involved in a tragic car accident in Nashville that resulted in the death of a 77-year-old woman, Dorothy Dobbins. The incident occurred when Smith, driving a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, struck Dobbins as she crossed a marked crosswalk, according to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.

Dobbins, a local resident, was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center but passed away due to her injuries. Police reported that Smith’s failure to yield to the pedestrian appears to be the main cause of the crash. Authorities confirmed that Smith showed no signs of being under the influence.

No charges have been filed against Smith at this time, and the police are still investigating the incident. Smith’s lawyer released a statement saying the singer is deeply saddened by the loss and sends his condolences to Dobbins’ family. The statement also noted that Smith is fully cooperating with the investigation. A source close to the situation said the accident was unintentional, and Smith was not distracted or impaired.

The accident happened on the last day of CMA Fest, a major country music festival in Nashville. Smith, a 24-year-old Nashville native, is known for his debut album Smoky Mountains and has performed as an opening act for Luke Bryan. He was nominated for New Male Artist of the Year at the 2024 ACM Awards. Recently, he released a single called “Country in the Clouds” with Dylan Marlowe and is featured on the Twisters movie soundtrack.

Smith married surfer Leah Thompson in April 2024.
