Chuncheon, South Korea, June 10, 2025 — K-pop sensation BTS is nearing a full group reunion as members RM and V were discharged from mandatory military service in South Korea on Tuesday, according to Reuters. The event in Chuncheon City drew approximately 200 fans, some traveling from as far as Mexico, Turkey, and Brazil to celebrate the occasion.

Reina Lorena Quintero Sevilla, who flew nearly 18 hours from Mexico City, expressed her excitement to the Associated Press: “The journey didn’t feel long at all. We’re thrilled to be here in South Korea, in the hometowns of the boys we love so much, to see them discharged.” Both RM and V, who began their service in December 2023, saluted fans upon their release, marking a significant moment for the global fanbase.

Other BTS members have also progressed through their mandatory service. Jin, the group’s eldest, completed his conscription in June 2024, while J-Hope was discharged in October, as reported by CNN. Jimin and Jungkook are slated for release on Wednesday, June 11, 2025. Suga, the seventh member, has been serving as a social service agent, an alternative to traditional military duty, and is expected to complete his service later this month, per Reuters.

South Korea’s Military Service Act mandates that all able-bodied men aged 18 to 28 serve 18 to 21 months to maintain national defense against North Korea. While exemptions exist for athletes and certain artists who elevate national prestige, K-pop stars like BTS do not qualify. However, a 2020 revision to the law allowed BTS members to defer their enlistment until age 30. After public debate, the group’s agency, HYBE, confirmed in 2022 that all members would fulfill their obligations, according to the Associated Press.

The seven members of BTS are planning to reunite as a group later in 2025, a development eagerly anticipated by fans worldwide. This report is based on verified updates from the Associated Press, CNN, Reuters, and other reputable news organizations as of June 10, 2025.
